The Legendary Days of the Lebenthal Bond Business
Louis and Sayra established the original bond business, Lebenthal & Company, in 1925, as an odd-lot firm focused on individual investors. At that time, the municipal bond market largely existed for high-net-worth investors and institutions. The company saw an opportunity to sell pieces left over from estate settlements and bank purchases to individual investors. During the New York City crisis of the 1970s, the firm’s brand was established when Alexandra’s father, Jim Lebenthal, publicized the value of “tax-free munis”, making municipal bonds a household word and the Lebenthal brand a landmark in New York City.
Today, the third generation of the family brings fresh perspective to managing wealth. With dynamic energy, smart decisions and the same careful responsibility and insights Louis and Sayra Lebenthal brought to the original firm, Alexandra & James holds the belief that money should make you happy.
The Next Generation: Alexandra & James Lebenthal
Today Alexandra & James provides personal wealth management, asset allocation, and portfolio construction services. The firm bases each client’s asset portfolio and manager selection on a detailed lifestyle analysis and risk management assessment. It now supports clients fully through all their financial situations – from daily responsibilities to unforeseen transitions – so they can spend their time living their lives.
